2D Animation Walk Cycle
Were given music and we have to make a walk cycle for it, and design the character for it, and keep the character simple. I got some industrial music, well, sounds like killer music. So, here's the character.
It's kinda Jason, Terminator and Johnny bravo all fused together.
So the scripting Begins
having nothing to do on the train on the one and a half hour trips to and from college, I have three hours of doing nothing. Time to get scripting "Xaro Li Juan". I'll have to do some research before I make a final copy of it, before it's all ok to make this story one step closer to reality. then once that is done. i'll story board it all, and make an animatic, so then i'll know what to do from there!
Cheers,
John.

My most disliked part of 3d
Rigging, This is especially annoying when one is in an artistic mood, and not technical...
Well... uhm... I guess you could be "artistic" with the controllers?
Well, hopefully I can get this done soon, with all my other assessments too. Then I shall start story boarding and scripting "Xaro Li Juan".
I had a guest lecturer today, interesting, he's a storyboard artist. I'm somewhat interested in being a storyboard artist on the side. Hopefully I can get a job out of it, so I can do stuff I like, not work at Myers.

So it is decided -
Xaro Li Juan
A short story about Xaro Li Juan who lives a life full of lies and deceit. Who taught to believe he is an elite first class solider who lost his memory in an accident. Still young and in his early twenties, so he belives, his curious and cocky can-do attitude leads him astray. He decides to make a short "excursion" away from the other soldiers, that will change his life forever.
Oh yes, there is the "hook-up" for my short film idea, it sounds rather cliché but there is more too it than this, the story is run in a "duality" of his past and his more recent past, starting with the present of his life.
Cheers,
John.

Maya's Hair system is..

annoying me. I'd love to know how to style the hair like in the picture, but every attempt I have at it ends in complete fail. Oh well, I'll do some assessments for college and come back to it tomorrow, before I end up bald like the character.
here my failed attempt at it.

My computer fails hard at this. One of my graphics cards died recently. So now i'm stuck with a pretty bad system:
1TB HDD.
4 gigs of ram.
3.2 Overclocked Quad core
Nvidia 9800Gt.
I think it's time to upgrade.

MS (microsoft) Paint..
.. kicks so much ass. It's so versatile. simple. efficient. awesome. Governments should learn from it, and make a system based off of it's simplistic awesomeness. can call is MSpaintism. I'd vote for that president, primemisters.... MSpaintister.
I did this picture in MS paint and a mouse. MS paint made it awesome.

This should go on a shirt.

Lurien?
What sort of ridiculous name is that? some stupid name I popped out of no where. Here's a dude from my cinematic, he's the boss character, but not the main character. But... that's enough info for now about it, that's for later this week!
In addition I'd like to add for the shot there isn't much of a close up of him, just a full body shot. So I did the "industry" thing and detailed it to it's position on the shot.

So what did I do today?
Many things, some homework i'm yet to email off to my colleauges at Qantm, if my internet decides to work and mostly Post production for a ten second cinematic (yes I know it's short but hey, I don't make the rules, I wish it were a minute, I would have been thrilled). I redid some texturing though and that's why Maya is crashing, will all those unnecessarily large texture file sizes. *cough 4096 x 4096 cough*
Mostly involved yelling at the computer screen due to Autodesk Maya's Incompetence. But I managed to get a lot of work done though, but I'm not gonna post it... that is for later on this week, whoever reads this page, check it saturday night.
In other news, lately all I hear, is Crysis this, Unreal Engine that. Pfft. Sure they had good graphics, but the games themselves sucked. Really. What was with the sharks coming out of the water in Crysis? that was completely rediculous. So move over CryEngine, SourceEngine and UnrealEngine, another engine has taken my love. Can you guess? no. Well, unless i've talked to you about it before. The unity engine. Sure it doesnt have all these over-the-top fantastic engine graphic features like the crazy lighting algorithims in the Cryengine to allow for real time GI (global illumination). But it has the essentials, like Ragdolls, particle effects, terrain and an easy to use system where the controls are almost all like mayas. It is also can be scripted much much easier than the unreal editor, and exporting to this program is like taking candy from a not-so-tough baby.
No. I'm not advertising, just saying this engine is pretty cool. I'm definately going to have a try at it once I get some free time and maybe making a game to be sold on Steam. That would be great if it sells, I won't really have to work. But then again, I'd be working by making it, but, it's not work if you enjoy it.
P.S no pictures today.

Next on the hit list,
I can't decide, whether to finalize the game level for Unreal Tournament 3 for game level design or finish the cinematic for 3D. Hmmmm decisions decisions. My game level is finished, I just have to write up a new design document for it, here are some screen shots of my level:
I went through some extensive rendering tutorials with mentral ray yesterday, hopefully I'm going ot start watching the Gnomon and Digital tutor Tutorials soon, well the ones I haven't completed. I may be new to 3D, but I know with the time an effort I can prove the skeptics wrong. Just like I did when I made the 2D animation back in high school. wow. That is immature, but hey, it's a drive, so I'll use it.

The first update..
... Anticlimax! got you didn't I? ... well, not on purpose, I was going to draw something today but I just mostly did assessments. The other parts of my day was spent procrastinating trying to decide the logo for this page. I went from a:

Something Dry and Gritty:
To this, still kinda Cliché but I don't want to be procrastinating for the rest of the week.

Well...
Facebook wasn't really the place to post stuff, and Deviant Art started to become bad, because of it's intense loading times due to thier un-refined system, I needed a place to post updates on what I did during the week or month. Don't even think of twitter, that is just bad. Don't even go there. I'll be trying to make a short film soon, hopefully starting it in the holidays, I'll post updates for it here. Also some other stuff too perhaps.
Stuck at home with chicken pox even though i had the vacinne, joy. But hey, i can get all, or most of my college work done in a week!
